Q: I have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata and the other night while driving to work, I hit a pothole in the road and heard a loud pop. My tire didn't go flat, but there is a bubble in the rubber of my tire now. What causes that and is it dangerous? - Anthony
A: Hi Anthony,
A bubble in your tire after a pothole means that your tire's inner liner was damaged from hard impact. There are other things that cause bubbles, such as manufacturer defect, curbs, railroad tracks, and debris in the road but since you hit a pothole that is definitely the case. A bubble is dangerous for two reasons. The first is that the bubble is now allowing air to escape from your tire. The second is that there is nothing keeping the tire from blowing out now except the thing nylon or polyester sidewall plies. I highly recommend not driving it unless you are driving it to get the tire replaced. Bring it on in to Tire Pros, and you will get the lowest price guaranteed on your tire, as well as a year of FREE roadside assistance incase something like this happens again.
