Q: I have a 2008 Ford Explorer and I went to a different tire shop to have 2 tires replaced. They told me that my car requires all 4 tires to be replaced, but 2 of them are not damaged. Were they trying to rip me off? - Alicia
A: Hi Alicia,
Because your car has all wheel drive, the answer is no, they are not trying to rip you off. They are actually concerned about the safety of your vehicle! If only two are replaced, it is almost certain that the tires have a different circumference than the existing ones. That will make them rotate at different speeds. The Anti-Lock Brake Computer will see that and interpret it as tire slip. It will activate the traction control system which applies the brake to the wheel that’s spinning the fastest. In the long run, it will cost you a drive train, which is WAY more expensive than two more tires! Here at Tire Pros of Frederick, we give you a free year of roadside assistance when you buy tires, and the lowest price guaranteed! Come on by and talk to one of our helpful service advisors and we bet we could get your four tires for less!
